A Summer of Joy and Learning: The SOS Children’s Village Summer Camp 2024

SOS Children’s Village Kosovo’s Summer Camp is an inclusive event designed to foster personal growth, creativity and community spirit among children from the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities in Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje. This year, the EU-funded camp that took place at Parku i Pishave in the village of Sllatinë between 5-9 August, welcomed a total of 92 children from the SOS Children’s Village Kosovo’s Family Strengthening Program.

The camp served as a nurturing space where children had the opportunity to develop new skills, build meaningful connections and experience learning through diverse activities. From exciting sports such as football, taekwondo and kayaking to creative activities such as painting, singing, dancing and magic tricks, the camp offered a little bit of something for everyone. Educational activities like scientific experiments, nature expeditions and creative recycling workshops were also part of the camp, encouraging important values such as teamwork and care for the environment.

“Enhance the child protection system in Kosovo by advancing child care responses for children without parental care and the protection of children from the vulnerabilities and risks of being in street situations” is the EU supported project under the Action “Protecting vulnerable children in Kosovo” in the frame of which the Summer Camp 2024 took place. The project, since the its beginning in October 2022, ensured resources and opportunities needed to lead safer and more hopeful lives for children without parental care and those vulnerable to street situations. Among many other significant activities, the Summer Camp 2024 further proved the EU’s continued commitment to protecting vulnerable children in Kosovo. This commitment helped the SOS Children’s Village Kosovo to achieve their objectives by supporting them to offer a safe and enriching environment for the children.

Summer Camp 2024 was more than just a week of fun—it was a powerful step forward in SOS Children’s Village Kosovo’s shared vision of protecting and empowering vulnerable children in Kosovo.
