On the 11th of April 2019, the EU Info Centre in North Mitrovica organized a panel discussion on ‘Animal Rights’, in the framework of EU Thematic Debates.
Animal rights association ‘Paw’ is an informal group of citizens gathered around helping the most vulnerable stray dogs in Mitrovica through regulated fostering, treatments, neutering and population control.
Having in mind that this group of people has gained a lot of visibility in the community recently, the aim of this event was to spread the word on their good work to a wider audience, but also to come up with solutions to the issues of inhumane treatment of animals and how to properly take care of them.
The debate featured Bojana Vukadinović, Animal Rights Association Paw, Milica Elezović-Radovanović, Veterinary Physician, Dejan Vasić, Attorney and Vesna Generalović, Animal Rights Association Paw.
The discussion touched on the origins of ‘Paw’ and the challenges they face, on animal abuse in general, animal protection laws, and solutions to the issue of stray animals and their well-being.
Several months back there have been numerous cases of shootings and poisonings of over 20 dogs.
