While the risk that our brain is escaping from Kosovo is alarming, more threatening is the extended effect of the impact that it will have on our proper survival. The cause of this effect is very simple: if the Government of Kosovo, together with the Assembly of Kosovo continue to consider that investment in doing science in Kosovo, and especially in applying science as secondary or tertiary, then the decline of Kosovo innovative economy, that could be extraordinarily profitable for the country, would be “fatal”.
Given many issues in Kosovo, starting from environmental, educational, health ones and other minor issues that our country faces with, as well as the extremely small investment, especially in stimulating the solution of these issues, while having sufficient human resources, i.e. people who have extraordinary mental potential in resolving these issues, the situation is desperate.
We believe that with passing of times and great efforts, no problem could remain unresolved. The emphasis here is on the time that might never end, given that it is a continuous rotating cycle, while we do not move and also efforts can never be made. We accept the failure as a natural consequence, however at the same time knowing that if we tried harder, that action could lead us closer to the success.
The Law on Scientific Research Activities clearly determines that among others, it should be worked on identification of scientific priorities to create conditions for infrastructure investments, to strengthen participation in international scientific research projects and to process a systematic education program for researches. One of the main objectives is also to support projects that strengthen connections between science, society and economy in order to simulate economic and social development, which in this case emphasizes application of science for the good of society.
Failure to invest in science and the right people will leave us lagging behind our neighbouring countries and pretty far from Europe. This could reflect upon our dignified aspiration for integration into European Union.
Our most bright minds, i.e. people qualified in this field, and many other famous names, as well as atomists (children with extraordinary intelligence) can find different forms of doing science and applying it in practice. In addition, many young children, the potential and interest of whom are yet unknown to us, are the ones that could change our way of living and beyond, if we know how to invest in them and how to stimulate them; if we know how to make them and science a priority; if we insist on and be keen on this through science and innovation. Thus we can change for better not only the life of our children, but also the life of our grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as change our country.
