On the occasion of the International Down Syndrome Day, EU ambassador in Kosovo Tomas Szunyog, paid a visit to the Down Syndrome Kosova organisation where he was hosted by Sebahate Beqiri – Executive Director of Down Syndrome Kosova, and other representatives of the organization.
The Head of EU Office in Kosovo/EU Special Representative, Ambassador Tomas Szunyog, thanked Mrs. Beqiri for the reception, and stated that this visit is an opportunity to learn more about the great work that the organization is doing to improve the living quality of people with Down Syndrome, and to provide them equal access and inclusion in Kosovo’s society.
Ambassador Szunyog called on the Kosovo institutions to show leadership and start adopting and applying laws and strategies that enable people with Down Syndrome Kosova, equal rights and opportunities. The Head of EU Office in Kosovo/EU Special Representative stressed that the European Union Office in Kosovo will continue to support Down Syndrome Kosovo in their work towards a better and inclusive society.
Sebahate Beqiri, Executive Director of Down Syndrome Kosova, thanked the Ambassador for the visit, and added that such a visit on World Down Syndrome Day, means a lot since it gives hope and support to the organization. The EU support for the organization has been vital according to Mrs. Beqiri, since thanks to this support they have managed to train 500 teachers, and to provide services within the organization.
Ambassador Szunyog had a chance to take a tour around the premises of the Down Syndrome Kosova, where he was introduced with the activities of the organization, and had a pleasant discussion with the young members of Down Syndrome Kosova.
