EU’s Winter Energy Support Package to Enhance Efficiency

Last month, backed by the European Union (EU), the Ministry of Economy introduced the latest Energy Support Package Measure. This initiative, specifically focusing on heating devices and technologies, aims to significantly boost energy efficiency. It forms part of a broader Energy Support Package endorsed by the EU. The primary objective of this subsidy package is to enhance the comfort of households during the winter season while also driving down energy consumption.

In collaboration with Alessandro Bianciardi from the EU Office in Kosovo, the Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, unveiled a subsidy scheme to encourage the adoption of energy-efficient heating equipment. This includes devices like heat pumps, high-efficiency air conditioners, and biomass boilers and stoves.

Key components of the subsidy are as follows:

  • Heat Pumps: A subsidy covering 30% of the investment, capped at €2,000.
  • High-Efficiency Air Conditioners: A subsidy covering 40% of the investment, up to €400. Notably, for single parents and beneficiaries of social assistance schemes (categories I & II), the subsidy extends up to 60%, with a ceiling of €550.
  • Biomass Boilers: The subsidy encompasses a generous 70% of the investment, limited to €1,200.
  • Biomass Stoves: 70% of the cost is covered, capped at €435. For single parents and those availing social assistance (categories I & II), it increases to 90%, capped at €560.

Residents keen on availing of this offer should take note: the deadline for online application submissions via the e-Kosova platform is 22 November 2023. Subsequent to the announcement, an outreach event was organized. It witnessed active participation from Minister Rizvanolli, EU representative Bianciardi, members of the Kosovo Assembly, and field specialists. The forum provided an opportunity for the public to seek clarifications on the application process, gain insights into efficient heating methods, and learn about electricity-saving techniques.

The Ministry of Economy, with the steadfast support of the EU, has a clear vision: to aid 20,000 households in elevating their energy efficiency standards. The endeavor promises not just a warmer winter for many but also a tangible reduction in energy bills.
